SCC # 2 (SimplyCity Collection # 2)

This hat is the second item of my SimplyCity Collection.
An SCC item is unsophisticated, efficient and easy to knit.
Form. Function. Fun.
SimplyCity.
Size: small/medium/large.
Yarn: Baya by Cheval Blanc: Bulky/12 ply (7 wpi), 50g=90m (or any other yarn matching the gauge), 2 skeins.
You will need:
  • Needles:
    • circular (60cm), metric size 5mm, UK size 6, US size 8.
    • cable or short double-pointed needle, metric size 4mm, UK size 8, US size 6.
  • Tapestry needle or crochet hook
Gauge: 10cm=16sts in stockinette stitch (knit all stitches on the right side), on 5mm needles.
Abbreviations:
st – stitch
R, rnd – round
p – purl
K – knit to the back loop (*all knit stitches in this pattern are knitted to the back loop! So, whenever the pattern says ‘knit’ think ‘knit to the back loop’)
p3tog – purl three stitches together
SK2P – slip 1 stitch onto the right needle as to knit to the back loop, knit 2 stitches together to the back loop, pull the second stitch through the first one.
Patterns:
Stockinette: K all.
Ribbing: *K1, p1*, repeat around.
‘Criss-cross’ pattern (* consists of 3 rnds):
R1: *slip 1 stitch onto the cable needle, hold to front of work, p1, slip the stitch from the cable needle back onto the left needle, K2, slip1 stitch onto the cable needle, hold to back of work, K1, slip the stitch from the cable needle back onto the left needle, p2*, repeat around.
R2: *p1, slip 2 stitches onto the cable needle, hold to front of work, K1, slip the second stitch from the cable needle back onto the left needle, K1, slip the first stitch from the cable needle back onto the left needle, K1, p2*, repeat around.
R3: *slip 1 stitch onto the cable needle, hold to back of work, K1, slip the stitch from the cable needle back onto the left needle, p1, K1, slip1 stitch onto the cable needle, hold to front of work, p1, slip the stitch from the cable needle back onto the left needle, K1, p1*, repeat around.
Knitting instructions: 
Cast on 96/102/108 sts.
  • Work 5 rnds in Stockinette.
  • Purl 1 rnd.
  • Work 5 rnds in Stockinette.
These rnds will form the brim of the hat.
  • Work 4 rnds in Ribbing.
  • Work the 3 rnds of the ‘Criss-cross’ pattern.
  • Work 5 rnds in Ribbing.
Repeat the two previous lines 2/3/3 more times.
  • Work the first two rnds of the ‘Criss-cross’ pattern. Then work as follows:
R1: *K1, p1, K1, p3tog*, repeat around.
R2-4: *K1, p1*, repeat around.
R5: *SK2P, p1*, repeat around.
R6: *K1, p1*, repeat around.
Cut off yarn leaving a 30cm tail. With the help of a tapestry needle or a crochet hook, pull the tail through the remaining sts several times, fasten off.
Fold the margin along the purl rnd to form a brim. Thread a needle and stitch neatly on the inner side of the hat. Stretch while stitching or the hat will come out too tight.
Weave in ends.
